12/8 Assignment

Part 1: Film 2 Review

Let's look at each others' films and post comments:)

Part 2: Student Showcase on Wed, 12/11

I'd like to show some of your films to the other students. I know they'll love them:)

Part 3: Film 3 Prep

Let's talk about what we want to do for our group project. You were supposed to think about ideas for homework.

With a partner(s), talk about the following:

-setting (time and place-near Baruch would be better)
-plot (events)
-characters (choose a person you want to be and describe them)

We will then talk together as a whole class and "storyboard" our ideas. Then we can go to a location near the school and "capture" some images:) We may need to separate to save time!

Part 4: Film Production

Let's put the pieces together!!!

Part 2: Vocabulary Review

Part 3: Quiz

Part 4: Final Film

I think it would be fun to create a mystery where we all are characters. Let's brainstorm ideas together of the following:

setting (time and place)
plot
characters

We can go on Tue of next week to film this (or meet before then if possible). We'll discuss this in class.

Maybe we could also go to a mystery dinner as a final field trip:)

Thu, 10/8 Class Assignment

Part 1: Video Clip CSI: NY

We're going to watch some of an episode. Then we're going to try and "put the pieces together" using crime scene and AWL1 vocabulary. Post 2 sentences using vocabulary words.

1. First, it might help to go to the website and do some research about the TV show and its characters. Click on the link below.

http://www.cbs.com/primetime/csi_ny/

2. Click "About" and read the basic history of the show. We will talk about it together.

3. Next you will pick a character from the show and then tell us about them.

Part 2: Storyboarding

1. First, you and your partner need to examine the images you took on the field trip. If you think you need more images, you should find them on the Internet. As I said in class, you should save these images on a flash drive or your gmail acct. Do not save them in My Documents!

2. Now you need to figure out the order of your images in a "storyboard". It helps to print them out and "play" with them on a piece of paper. I will go around and help you:) You should have 10 images. Keep in mind that you need to use 10 vocabulary words as well.

Part 3: Windows Movie Maker

1. Click "Start" and then open Windows Movie Maker from the "All Programs" menu. This is the program we will be using.

2. I will give you a handout with basic instructions, but it will probably be easier if I demonstrate for you how to use this software.

3. Your main task today is to upload the 10 images you are going to use. You may need to "reshoot" or create images you think you want to use if you can't find them on the Internet:)

If we have time, I'll show you some more tips.

Also think about the following questions.

  1. Describe Peter Stuyvesant's personality.

  3. Why is St. Mark's-in-the-Bowerie mentioned? What is significant about it?
  4. What are "paranormal researchers"? What have they done?
  5. What do you think about this story?
Part 3: Find a Spooky Picture

Search the Internet and find one scary picture that interests you. It can be anything, but it probably should be something that you would like to use in your first digital story for this class:) Then post it to the class blog. I'll demonstrate how to do this. After you must write a comment about each classmate's image.

Part 4: Homework Review

We need to review the homework about crime scene vocabulary;) You will need to use this vocabulary later in your digital stories as well as discussions about film clips!

Part 5: CSI NY Film Clip

We're going to watch a few minutes of a piopular TV show. With a partner, you'll need to use the following:

-5 vocabulary words from the crime scene vocabulary list

sciencespot.net/Media/FrnsScience/crimescenebasics.ppt

-2 words from Sublist 1 (AWL)

http://www.academicvocabularyexercises.com/

Explain to the class what happened!
